Cesare Maria Joppolo is full professor at Politecnico di Milano, Department and School of Energy Engineering , where he teaches classes and conducts research in the field of HVAC&R equipments, indoor air quality,
contamination control and cleanroom design, micro-environmental control to preserve art and
museum collections, thermal systems and renewable energies . He is founder and director of the Air Lab, a R&D facility in Green and Hi-Tech Air Conditioning. The Air Lab encompasses the White Box, a cross-disciplinary cleanroom and clean spaces ventilation research laboratory center. Mr. Joppolo has been President of the Italian Air-conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Association (AICARR); he is member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Contamination Control Association (ASCCA). He has served on many technical and
society committees of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning
Engineers (ASHRAE). Cesare Joppolo is an active Member of International Scientific Societies (i.e.
International Institute of Refrigeration, IIR, and International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate, ISIAQ). He has been organizer of three International Conferences (i.e. Healthy Buildings in 1995, Clima2000 in 2001, and ClimaMed in 2007). Mr. Joppolo has authored or co-authored two international patents and more than 140 peer reviewed papers, peer reviewed conference papers and books. He has been researching air
conditioning and refrigeration systems for almost thirty years. Besides the papers, products of the R&D include many prototypes components and pilot systems. Mr. Joppolo developed an innovative hybrid mechanical ventilation system, integrated in an highly-airtight bulletproof glass case, for the utmost protection of the Mona Lisa at Louvre Museum.
